Help removing XP Smart Security 2010 Hijackthis now included

Postby angel.sw12 » Thu Mar 18, 2010 9:34 am

I have somehow got infected with XP Smart Security 2010. I followed the instructions on the site, starting with step one and then rebooting. After this I couldn't open the Malware exe file, so I repeated step one without rebooting. I was then able to run the Malware, which found lots of trojans etc, but every time I reboot the pop-ups come back. I have also tried using Rkill to stop the process and then running Malware and the same with Spybot Search & Destroy, and tried to manually remove the files and registy values but nothing seems to be able to get rid of this. Do you have any other suggestions please?
Thanks a million, Sacha

Re: Help removing XP Smart Security 2010 Hijackthis now included

Postby patrik » Thu Mar 18, 2010 5:59 pm

Hello, welcome to the Myantispyware forum.

Run HijackThis. Click "Do a system scan only" button.
Now select the following entries by placing a tick in the left hand check box, if still present:
Code: Select all
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Regedit32] C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [syncman] c:\windows\system32\wuaucldt.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [syncman] c:\documents and settings\sacha\wuaucldt.exe

Once you have selected all entries, close all running programs then click once on the "fix checked" button.
Reboot your computer.

Download GMER Antirootkit from here.
Mirror location: here. This version will download a zip. If you use this mirror, please unzip it to a folder that you create such as C:\Gmer\.

Disconnect from the internet and disable all active protection so your security program drivers will not conflict with gmer's driver.
Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. a1afk10a.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
For mirror version, double-click Gmer.exe to run the program.
When the program opens, click the ">>>" Tab
Click the "Rootkit/Malware" Tab.
Select all drives that are connected to your system to be scanned.
Click the Scan button.
When the scan is finished, click Copy to save the scan log to the Windows clipboard.
Open Notepad or a similar text editor.
Paste the clipboard contents into a text file by clicking Edit -> Paste or Ctrl + V
Save the gmer scan log to your desktop.
Close Gmer.

Download RSIT by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
* Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
* Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
* Once it has finished, two logs will open. If it does not automatically open, then these logs can be found at %systemdrive%\rsit folder (typically C:\rsit)

Post back with GMER log + both RSIT logs. Post each log in separate post.
