Hello~

I'm new to the forums but have come here seeking some help with a virus/trojan that somehow appeared on my laptop this morning. I found a site with tips for getting rid of it when searching Google (http://htlogs.com/what-is-jdk5swfmzy-how-to-remove-jdk5swfmzy/), tried the tips and they didn't work. The site then directed me to these forums for more help. I have downloaded HijackThis and have the most recent HijackThis log for you. Also, I have Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D both installed on the system (as well as McAfee, required by my company, bleh) but neither of these malware removal tools will open, nor can I get to their websites (I'm assuming it's redirecting me away then throwing a google search error each time I try to go there). Thanks for your time and any help would be greatly appreciated (as I work from home and my laptop being unusable is really affecting my productivity today).

Hello, welcome to the Myantispyware forum.

Run HijackThis. Click "Do a system scan only" button.
Now select the following entries by placing a tick in the left hand check box, if still present:
Code: Select all
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829} - (no file)
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{12C45BC4-E907-4DDB-9D0F-CE1BCD06170C}: NameServer = 93.188.163.237,93.188.166.217
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{2A9542D0-88C1-4894-A790-6EB5A9197210}: NameServer = 93.188.163.237,93.188.166.217
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{F433346E-1E9A-4412-A3B2-6B153E9A05D6}: NameServer = 93.188.163.237,93.188.166.217
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 93.188.163.237,93.188.166.217
O17 - HKLM\System\CS4\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 93.188.163.237,93.188.166.217
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 93.188.163.237,93.188.166.217

Once you have selected all entries, close all running programs then click once on the "fix checked" button.
Close HijackThis.

Click Start, Run. Type
Code: Select all
cmd

Press Enter. Command console opens.
Type
Code: Select all
ipconfig /flushdns

Press Enter.
Close command console and reboot your computer.

Download RSIT by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
* Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
* Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
* Once it has finished, two logs will open. If it does not automatically open, then these logs can be found at %systemdrive%\rsit folder (typically C:\rsit)

Post back with both RSIT logs. Post each log in separate post.

Right click to HijackThis and select Run As Administrator. Click "Do a system scan only" button.
Now select the following entries by placing a tick in the left hand check box, if still present:
Code: Select all
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829} - (no file)
    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{12C45BC4-E907-4DDB-9D0F-CE1BCD06170C}: NameServer = 93.188.163.237,93.188.166.217
    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{2A9542D0-88C1-4894-A790-6EB5A9197210}: NameServer = 93.188.163.237,93.188.166.217
    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{F433346E-1E9A-4412-A3B2-6B153E9A05D6}: NameServer = 93.188.163.237,93.188.166.217
    O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 93.188.163.237,93.188.166.217
    O17 - HKLM\System\CS4\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 93.188.163.237,93.188.166.217
    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 93.188.163.237,93.188.166.217

Once you have selected all entries, close all running programs then click once on the "fix checked" button.
Close HijackThis.

Click Start. Type in Search
Code: Select all
cmd

Press Enter. Command console opens.
Type
Code: Select all
ipconfig /flushdns

Press Enter.
Close command console and reboot your computer.

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix, please delete that version now.
Download Combofix from here. Close any open browsers. Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a log for you.If the log does not automatically open, then it can be found at %systemdrive%\combofix.txt (typically C:\combofix.txt).

If ComboFix will not run, please rename it to myapp.exe and try again!

Post back with combofix log + fresh HijackThis log.

When I download ComboFix, I get a virus alert from McAfee. It says the file has the Artemis!5BF173ADBEB0 Trojan. Is this a misdiagnosis, is it ok?

Everything looks great now. I don't get the browser redirects, can open up websites I couldn't before (malwarebytes.org, anti-malware software websites, download links that wouldn't open previous, etc...) can open up spyware/malware software now. I scanned with Malwarebytes and Spybot once combofix was done, got 8 pieces of Malware via Malwarebytes, which I promptly removed. I think all is well now, thank you so much for your time and patience with this issue.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

1. Remove tools, files or folders created during this cleanup operation.
Uninstall Combofix.
Click Start > Run - type ComboFix /uninstall
Press Ok.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore.

2. Update your programs.

Visit Microsoft Update (update.microsoft.com). Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. Microsoft releases patches for Windows and Office products regularly to patch up Windows and Office products loopholes and fix any bugs found.
Update all antivirus/antispyware programs regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

3. Many of the exploits are directed to users of Internet Explorer.
Use only an alternate browser - Firefox or Opera.

4. Be careful when opening attachments and downloading files.

Patrik~

Thank you so much for all your assistance as well as the tips to keeping my CPU clean. I follow most of these tips (minus the IE one...I'm a web developer and, as some people still use it, we are required to test with it, etc...). I think the issue happened while IE was in use as well...so I'll have to ensure that my IE is up to date and as secure as it can be.

One question quick...can you think of any reason ComboFix would have disappeared from my desktop? I didn't remove it or delete it, but for some reason it's not on my CPU anymore. Could this be something malicious still lurking under the scenes? Is it possible that my AV software registered it as a virus and quarantined it (in a post above, I reported McCrappy finding a virus in the ComboFix.exe download so I DL it from another CPU and moved it to this laptop just in case I was being redirected to a virus)?

Some security programs will incorrectly identify this tool as potentially or actually malicious due to some of it’s components. Although these files can be used maliciously, they are an integral part of the fix.
You need disable your antivirus, download a fresh copy of Combofix, perform an uninstall procedure (look above), then enable your antivirus.

Patrik~

Thanks so much for all your assistance. I got ComboFix uninstalled, as well as OTM, RSIT and HijackThis. All my spyware/malware detection software is up-to-date along with my Windows and IE. Thanks again for all your help. Hopefully I won't need it again, but when you have an internet presence like mine, it's bound to happen. I'm surprised that in the 15 years or so I've been active on the net, this is the worst I've gotten.

Thanks again,
Travis
