Need help with Antivirus 2010 Removal in Vista

Postby jason.m.lloyd » Mon Mar 07, 2011 7:28 pm

Hi,

Thanks for this website. I have been trying to remove this virus from my computer for about a week now. I followed the directions on your site. In the first step, I could not get method 1 to work (create the fix.reg file), but I did get the fix.inf method to work. When I create the fix.reg file, and try to run it, I get the following error:

Cannot import C:\Users\Jason\Desktop\fix.reg: Teh specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.

I rebooted, downloaded Malwarebytes as recommended and installed Malwarebytes. I got through to page where it asks to perform a quick scan. I checked this block and hit the scan button. Malwarebytes runs for a few seconds and shuts down. I tried to go through the directions that you have for getting the Hijack This file, and it does the same thing (Hijack This runs for a few seconds and then shuts down). Any help you could give would be GREATLY appreciated!

Patrick,

Thanks for the response. I have gotten no further on this than when I sent the message. Tried various fixes, including booting in safe mode with networking and trying to run Malwarebytes or Hijack This and still have the same issue (both programs shut down in about 10 seconds after they start running). Thanks for the help!

Please download OTL from here, but before saving, in the Save dialog, rename otl.exe to explorer.exe and save it to your desktop.
* Double click on the icon on your desktop.
* Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
* Push the "Run Scan" button.
* The scan should take just a few minutes.
* Two reports will open (OTL.txt and Extra.txt).

Post back with both OTL logs. Post each log in separate post.

Patrick,

Thanks. I downloaded OTL, as instructed. I renamed the file to OTE.exe before saving to my desktop. I double clicked the icon on my desk top to run the program and it launched. When I hit "run scan", it ran for a few seconds (like the Hijack This and Malwarebytes) and automatically shut down.

Reboot your computer in Safe mode and try to run OTL once again.
