My Anti Spyware

Not sure what the problem is but no programs would open and a window opened up wanting me to activate some kind of anti virus protection/scanner I think it was called "Privacy Protection" I had to restart computer and quickly turn it off with windows task manager to even get opera to open. If you can you help me I would greatly appreciate it thanks. - supr75

My computer is running extremely slowly, I can surf the internet ok for a time but it gradually gets slower as time goes by. If I leave it on for a while and come back to it it is almost impossible to navigate to anything in a timely fashion. It seems today when I turned on the computer, the computer took forever to load Firefox. And forever, I meant like 10+ minutes (very abnormal). So had to hunt down your forum again (thankfully I was able to search on my user name - since I lost the bookmark! <G>).

Also during the sluggishness/ no responses from Firefox, I did do an control-atl-delete and got a message to the effect about no security ...

Just got a call from my 70 year old mother and her computer has been infected with the XP Security 2012 virus. She is average at best with computers although she uses them daily at work.

I'm hoping there is a simple fix that could help me help her get her machine cleaned up.

I've visited several sites on how to get rid of this )#($&* virus. However, they all want me to download and install a program, which is fine, BUT... the (#*&$#@@ virus won't let any EXE files run. They are all identified as a virus and closed.
Yes, I'm operating in Safe Mode Networking, if that makes any difference.

Any ideas?

My other thought is to try and remove it manually, but I have no idea ...

I had a fake spyware virus last night. It wouldn't let me restart in safe mode but I did a system restore which allowed me to boot into Windows (XP) and Malwarebytes found and deleted some trojans. MSE also found viruses and deleted them.

But now my GFX Driver (Catalyst Control Center for AMD) won't start/brings up error messages and my favourites in IE8 are invisible (they are still there because I can't re-save ...

I'm having some problems removing the CleanThis Virus. I was able to get through Step 1 and Step 2 of the removal instructions for the CleanThis Virus on myantispyware.com. But when it came time to download Malwarebytes Anti-malware, the download became blocked. Pleas help me remove this virus. Your time and help is greatly appreaciated! Thank you.

After the internet became inaccessible, I downloaded SuperAntispyware and Malwarebytes onto a stick and copied over in Safe Mode. I ran both and supposedly cleaned out the infected areas. No matter how I start the laptop up, I still cannot access the net or any .exe files. I searched for the lone HOTFIX file and changed the name to .bak. Still nothing.

What else should I be doing?

Hi, I just followed your awesome instructions for removing Anti Virus XP and it looks like it's worked perfectly. But I have some other issues now...
