So I have followed the steps provided in downloading malwarebytes, and OTM, however the note that says:
System Tool creates the following files and folders
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\{RANDOM}
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\{RANDOM}\{RANDOM}.exe.

makes no sense to me, as I don't seem to have a documents and settings folder.

i am in safe mode btw -

loading the computer back into regular, system tool is still there! help!

Looks like your computer is infected with an updated version of the rogue.
Click Start, type in Search field:

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe

Press Enter. It will open HijackThis.
Click "Do a system scan only" or Scan button.
Now select the following entries by placing a tick in the left hand check box, if still present:

After my post last night we downloaded rkill.exe, ran that, then the malwarebyte again, then our regular antivirus Avast - and the program seems to be gone.
Edit: on start up we kept getting a pop up that windows blocked some programs upon start up. and it was blocking the malwarebyte program.

i have followed our instructions, both of the BHO were in these but the HKCU one was not.
