DNS Virus

Postby Kilrain » Mon May 04, 2009 4:08 am

Hi there. I have a DNS virus and I'm following the instructions you posted. Hopefully, you can help.

EDIT* - I am getting redirected constantly and all of my virus/malware program updates are being blocked as well as any microsoft/windows updates and security downloads. My ISP has emailed me and pretty much told me I must get this fixed asap or their going to cut my service. They directed me to you. Please help.

Following is the result of the hijackthis system scan:

Hello Kilrain, welcome to the Myantispyware forum.

Download Avenger from here and unzip to your desktop.
Run Avenger, make sure that the box next to "Scan for rootkits" has a tick in it and that the box next to "Automatically disable any rootkits found" does not have a tick in it, then click on ‘Execute’.
Afterwards, Windows restarts, and opens the log generated by The Avenger so you can see the results. If it does not automatically open, then the log can be found at %systemdrive%\avenger.txt (typically C:\avenger.txt).

Post back with Avenger log.

Run HijackThis. Click "Do a system scan only" button.
Now select the following entries by placing a tick in the left hand check box, if still present:
Code: Select all

It's working well. Thanks a ton! I was able to download updates again... so I did... windows/norton/webroot etc. And that helped a lot. I also bought the RegCure package that you have linked on this site, and ran all of those. That also worked well.

However, now I'm running into a small but irritating problem:

When I have more than one window open, the unselected windows along the base of the screen turn orange, and it is a major pain to bounce from one window to another. My start-up is also running very, very slowly.

Any suggestions?

Much appreciated!

By the way, should I keep Avenger and Combofix? And if not, what's the best way to delete them?

Thanks again!
