|
|
Hi - I recently got infected with something that redirects all my search pages to other search pages or ad pages. And, it is preventing me from downloads. I've been reading other posts and about similar problems and it seems that I need to run a HiJackThis log and maybe run ComboFix. However, I am unable to download either one of these applications. I tried to download them from another computer and then copy them to the desktop of my infected computer - neither application will run.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Hello ckelly74, welcome to the Myantispyware forum!
Your computer heavy infected.
Please re-run HijackThis and scan, put a checkmark next to the following items (if exists):
| Code: | F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3B7AAEB1-9F3D-4491-9C06-C7165CA8D058} - C:\Program Files\Applications\iebt.dll (file missing)

O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - (no file) |
Now close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click “Fix Checked” to have HijackThis fix the entries you checked.
Download Combofix. Run, follow the prompts.

| Thanks Patrick. I removed the items using FixIt. I was unable to download ComboFix using my infected computer. I used another computer and put ComboFix on a flash drive and then copied it to the desktop of the infected computer. ComboFix will not run. Is there another way I can get it to run or something else I should do? Thanks! |

Hi Patrik - I went in this morning and renamed ComboFix and started to run it, but we lost power and the computer had to restart. It's now in a repeating cycle of starting up and when it gets to the screen saying "Windows XP", it just restarts and starts doing this over and over. I tried to hit F8 and start in a Safe Mode, but everything I try gets to the "Windows XP" screen and then it restarts again.
I'm posting this from my work computer and am hoping you might know what I can do to fix this problem so I can get back to the original problem. Thanks in advance for any help! |

Hi Patrik -
Well, the good news is that I appear to be free from all the virus issues. The bad news is that I had to recover my C drive, which basically wiped out everything on that drive. Fortunately, we don't store data or picturs files there, it mainly just had applications that we are now reinstalling.
Thanks for all the help, hopefully I won't need to get back in touch about more issues, but if I do, I know where to go.
Thanks! |
