Remove WombatStarter.exe redirect from FF
If the FF settings have been replaced by the ‘ad supported’ software, then resetting it to the default state can help you to get rid of the redirect onto unwanted ad pages.
First, start the Firefox and click button. It will open the drop-down menu on the right-part of the web browser. Next, click the Help button () as shown below.
In the Help menu, select the “Troubleshooting Information” option. Another way to open the “Troubleshooting Information” screen – type “about:support” in the web-browser address bar and press Enter. Get rid of WombatStarter ads from Google Chrome
Like other modern web-browsers, the Google Chrome has the ability to reset the settings to their default values and thereby get rid of the redirect to annoying advertisements that is caused by the WombatStarter.exe adware.
At first, start the Google Chrome. Next, press the button in the form of three horizontal stripes (). It will appear the main menu. Click on the option named “Settings”. Another way to display the Google Chrome’s settings – type chrome://settings in the internet browser adress bar and press Enter.
The web-browser will open the settings screen. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the “Show advanced settings” link. Now scroll down until the “Reset settings” section is visible, as on the image below and click the “Reset settings” button.
The Chrome will open the confirmation dialog box. You need to confirm your action, click the “Reset” button. The program will start the process of cleaning. Once it’s done, the web browser settings including the ‘block pop-ups’ option back to the values that have been when the Chrome was first installed on your computer.
Get rid of WombatStarter.exe from Microsoft Internet Explorer
To remove the WombatStarter.exe ads you need to reset the Internet Explorer to the state, which was when the Windows was installed on your machine.
First, start the Internet Explorer, then press ‘gear’ icon . It will open the drop-down menu on the right part of the browser, then click the “Internet Options” as on the image below.
In the “Internet Options” screen, you need to select the “Advanced” tab and click the “Reset” button. The Internet Explorer will display the “Reset Internet Explorer settings” prompt like below. Next, click the “Delete personal settings” check box to select it. After that, press the “Reset” button.
When the process is finished, click “Close” button. Close the Internet Explorer and restart your PC system for the changes to take effect. This step will help you to restore your browser’s settings to default state and disable ‘ad-supported’ extensions.
Delete unwanted Scheduled Tasks
If the annoying ad web-site opens automatically on Windows startup or at equal time intervals, then you need to check the Task Scheduler Library and remove all the tasks that have been created by unwanted applications.
Press Windows and R keys on the keyboard together. This opens a dialog box that titled as Run. In the text field, type “taskschd.msc” (without the quotes) and click OK. Task Scheduler window opens. In the left-hand side, press “Task Scheduler Library”, as shown on the image below.
In the middle part you will see a list of installed tasks. Select the first task, its properties will be open just below automatically. Next, click the Actions tab. Pay attention to that it launches on your machine. Found something like “explorer.exe http://site.address” or “chrome.exe http://site.address”, then you need delete it. If you are not sure that executes the task, check it through a search engine. If it is a component of the malicious program, then this task also should be removed.
Having defined the task that you want to get rid of, then click on it with the right mouse button and select Delete as shown below.
Repeat this step, if you have found a few tasks that have been created by ‘ad-supported’ programs. Once is finished, close the Task Scheduler window.
