Delete suspicious software by using MS Windows Control Panel

Once installed, the VBS:Malware-gen trojan can add a task in to the Windows Task Scheduler Library. Due to this, every time when you run your computer, it will start automatically. So, you need to check the Task Scheduler Library and delete all harmful tasks that have been created by VBS:Malware-gen.
Press Windows and R keys on the keyboard simultaneously. This shows a prompt that titled with Run. In the text field, type “taskschd.msc” (without the quotes) and click OK. Task Scheduler window opens. In the left-hand side, press “Task Scheduler Library”, as displayed in the figure below.
In the middle part you will see a list of installed tasks. Please choose the first task, its properties will be show just below automatically. Next, click the Actions tab. Pay attention to that it launches on your computer. Found something like “explorer.exe http://site.address” or “chrome.exe http://site.address”, then delete this harmful task. If you are not sure that executes the task, check it through a search engine. If it is a component of the adware, then this task also should be removed.
Having defined the task that you want to delete, then click on it with the right mouse button and choose Delete as shown below.
Repeat this step, if you have found a few tasks which have been created by ‘ad-supported’ program. Once is finished, close the Task Scheduler window.
Disinfect the web-browser’s shortcuts changed by VBS:Malware-gen
The VBS:Malware-gen virus can hijack various Windows shortcuts on your desktop (most often, all web-browsers shortcuts), so in this step you need to check and clean them by removing the argument such as http://site.address/.
Click the right mouse button to a desktop shortcut which you use to open your browser. Next, select the “Properties” option. Important: necessary to click on the desktop shortcut for the internet browser which is redirected to an undesired web-site.
Further, necessary to look at the text which is written in the “Target” field. The VBS:Malware-gen virus can rewrite the contents of this field, which describes the file to be launch when you start your internet browser. Depending on the web-browser you’re using, there should be:
- Google Chrome: chrome.exe
- Opera: opera.exe

Press the Menu button (looks like three horizontal lines), and click the blue Help icon located at the bottom of the drop down menu as displayed in the following example.

Remove VBS:Malware-gen virus from Google Chrome

- First start the Chrome and click Menu button (small button in the form of three dots).
- It will open the Chrome main menu. Choose More Tools, then click Extensions.
- You’ll see the list of installed addons. If the list has the extension labeled with “Installed by enterprise policy” or “Installed by your administrator”, then complete the following steps: Remove Chrome extensions installed by enterprise policy.
- Now open the Chrome menu once again, click the “Settings” menu.

- Once this task is finished, your internet browser’s home page, new tab page and search provider by default will be restored to their original defaults.

In order to restore all web-browser start page, new tab page and default search engine you need to reset the IE to the state, which was when the MS Windows was installed on your PC.
First, open the IE, then press ‘gear’ icon . It will display the Tools drop-down menu on the right part of the web browser, then click the “Internet Options” as displayed on the screen below.
In the “Internet Options” screen, select the “Advanced” tab, then click the “Reset” button. The Internet Explorer will display the “Reset Internet Explorer settings” dialog box. Further, click the “Delete personal settings” check box to select it. Next, click the “Reset” button as shown in the following example.
After the task is finished, press “Close” button. Close the Internet Explorer and restart your system for the changes to take effect. This step will help you to restore your internet browser’s newtab, start page and search engine by default to default state.

After the downloading process is done, close all software and windows on your PC system. Double-click the setup file called Zemana.AntiMalware.Setup. If the “User Account Control” dialog box pops up as shown on the screen below, click the “Yes” button.
