Next, XP Home Security 2012 will prompt you to purchase its full version to fix supposedly found infections. Remember, all of these reported infections are fake and don’t actually exist on your computer! So you can safely ignore the scan results that the rogue gives you.

Hi, I followed your steps until you said “open notepad” but the problem is, I cannot open any programs (including notepad). What do I do?
You need to repeat the first step.
i am one of the victims who got sucked in by xp security 2012 and actually purchased it…. what should i do now, re-install new windows?
I got the files onto my desktop, but the .reg file becomes “cannot import C:/….fix.reg: The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.”
So I can’t seem to install that one.
And the .inf file just opens up to notepad again, even though I made sure to safe it as .inf and there’s that gear on the icon to signify that it isn’t just a txt file.
I’ve got malwarebytes on USB, but it won’t run.
pete, anyway you need to remove this malware. Once completed, contact your credit card company and tell them what has happened (make a chargeback).
You don’t open the .inf file you right click and install it. Worked like a charm, thanks for taking the time to post this useful info Patrick, very much appreciated!
– “XP Security Center 2012” – Malware / virus
My wife’s computer was infected by this piece of hideous crap written by some evil programmer(s). This malware / virus has been around in various forms since 2008, and I can’t understand why anti-virus software companies haven’t provided a fix for this yet. The only one which can detect and remove this virus – For FREE! – is “MalwareBytes Anti-Malware” and Patrick who provided the solution. Much thanks to you Patrick!!! I suggest using – Method 1, on the infected computer. Follow Patricks instructions exactly to make the “fix.reg” file. I downloaded “MalwareBytes Anti-Malware” on my computer and copied it from a flash drive to the desktop of the infected computer. I then applied “fix.reg” and shut down the infected computer. As soon as the desktop appears immediately double click the “MalwareBytes Anti-Malware” installation icon – “mbam-setup-1.51.2.1300.exe”. Follow it’s on screen instructions and allow it to update itself. – Do Not Close – it, but immediately select “Perform full scan”. When it’s done make sure the infected files are check marked and delete them and shut down your computer. During this entire time Do Not close the “”MalwareBytes Anti-Malware” program, even when you shut the computer down to complete the removal process. After you reboot, this virus should be gone. It worked for me!
